Nelson Gomes | Portuguese Contemporary Artist
Nelson Gomes was born in 1971 in Fonte do Oleiro, a Portuguese village with deep roots in pottery and ceramic production.
With a natural ability for the arts, he began his professional career at an early age in the painting department of a regional ceramics company. There, he learned the foundations of artistic painting on earthenware. His critical eye, creativity and innovative approach quickly set him apart, and his professional journey later led him to work as an instructor in the field.
Driven by a constant desire to develop his skills, Nelson enrolled in an open-studio programme in Decorative Arts and Painting in Leiria. He specialised with distinction in porcelain painting, ceramic painting and oil on canvas.
Over the years, he has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His work has consistently received a highly positive response from the public, who recognise its originality, distinctive character and contemporary vision.
Nelson has also participated in international professional events dedicated to art, interior design and decoration, maintaining close contact with designers, decorators, retailers and other industry professionals.
A Family-Run Atelier
Today, Nelson dedicates himself entirely to his passion for creating original artistic pieces for interiors. He works alongside his wife, whose knowledge and experience in ceramics play an essential role in many of the atelier’s creations.
Together, they produce distinctive artworks and decorative pieces for private collectors, interior designers and companies within the art and decoration sector.
The atelier houses a constantly evolving selection of original works and also offers the possibility of creating bespoke pieces adapted to a particular space, size, colour palette or project. Every commission is developed with the aim of remaining original, personal and unique.
A Constantly Evolving Creative Process
Perfectionist, humble, organised and deeply dedicated to his work, Nelson draws inspiration from the world around him. His collections are continuously evolving through the exploration of new materials, techniques, textures and compositions.
He does not define himself simply as a painter or artist. Instead, he describes his work as the result of inspiration, curiosity and the pleasure he finds in creating and innovating.
Repetition is the part of the process he enjoys the least. For this reason, many of his creations are produced only in limited editions, while others remain entirely unique.
His artworks reveal the passion, dedication and soul with which they are created. This emotional and deeply personal approach is, without doubt, what makes his work truly distinctive.
